Confusion about Soul Paches.

The manual says when you use a soul patcher you select the skill you don't want and the removed points appear, ready for you to use. Well I tried it with what I assume is a soul patcher (blue speak icon) but it didn't work like that at all. I didn't get to tell him what skill I'd like to remove, I just found there were a few extra skill points, but they didn't seem to be removed from any skills.

Also, I have new attribute points. It took one or two away and gave me about five. So I did it again, more skill points, more attribute points. And so on.

Is this how it's supposed to work? It seems like a cheat because you could just keep getting free attribute points (well, for 500 gold).

All I wanted to do was remove the skills I'd invested in parry and archery.

I noticed a similar issue myself too. I think when a Soul Patcher "regresses"you, you DO have some skill points removed from skills that are only level 1. If you look at your character screen, yes you will have an increase in the number of skill points that you can now distribute, but if you look carefully at the skills you do not use regularly, and were only at level 1 and they have now been reduced to level 0.

I also tried to regress my character, because I wanted to see what happened too. I gained 5 skill points to add to skills of my choice, however 5 skills that were at level 1, were all reduced to level 0, making them unuseable. ( I could no longer, swim, use any bow skills at all, or use dirty trick. 1 point lost in swimming, 1 point lost in dirty trick, and 3 points lost, one in each of the archery skills i had paid for to learn, but never used...)

I myself have only tried to regress my character once, so I do not know if you can reduce the skill level of a skill that has more than 1 skill point in it. Maybe you can, I don't know for sure, or where for that matter.

I get the feeling that Soul Patchers are bugged maybe. You don't get to choose the skills to reduce like it says you can do so in the manual. Atleast I wasn't able to choose them either.

P.S. it's pretty easy to level up in this game so why would you need to use the Soul Patcher anyways? Go kill a few more baddies and you get some more skill points to distribute.

OK here is what I get from talking to soul patchers. They take off stat and skill points randomly. the 500GP patchers take off 15 stat points and 5 skill points each time (and as far as I have found the points do come off) the 2000GP soul patchers take off 30 stat points and 15 skill points? maybe 20 skill points, not 100% sure.

Anyhow I have only found the 2000GP soul patcher in on line anyway , I haven't finished the single player game yet.

You can talk to a patcher multiple times, if he can't take off the whole amount he won't patch you. What I do is talk to him until my stats and skills are all 0 and then redistribute. (normally I have to add back stat points a lot so I can get him to take off all my skill points). It's expensive but the only way to truly rearrange all your skills. Also nice because now you can rearrange those will points you got from the ghoul brain potion to say Dex.

A little trick for lots of extra skill points. Talk to a soul patcher and get him to remove all your skills. Then quit and start a new match, then buy all the skills you can up to 1 then talk to the patcher and get them all removed and repeat. Only works in online RPG mode (well that's the only mode I tested) My level 1 guy has all his skills at 2 (the max) and 200 points waiting for him to level up.

There's one in Tharbakin, near the other mages in the northwestern (?) corner of the town. Can't remember where the others are...
