Two Worlds: Antaloor Post (Issue 21/May 2008) |
|
May 02, 2008 - 8:45 PM - by propheet
|
Issue 21 of Antaloor Post, the official Temptation newsletter is here.
In this issue, you'll find:
*Enlightenment - Thanks to Technology
Devs took time and created some pretty advanced lighting schemes for Temptation. It seems that original shadow maps and dynamic lighting along with HDR were not next-gen enough; they're now revealing the new and -let's face it- stunning new addition to evergrowing world of Antaloor. Dynamic Ambience Occlusion, or DaO for short, is the method of light mapping which allows creating the following:
-Rays of 'heavenly light', as sometimes seen when a lonely ray of sunlight penetrates the cover of the clouds,
-Particle reflections, which make dust and air 'particles' glow within a ray,
-Deeper or shallower shadows because of the Occlusion effect - when some objects scatter the light, they obscure visibility of objects behind them (lightsource-wise), to enhance the feeling of darker or lighter shadows and higher or lower objects' visibility. This is seen perfectly here:

*Just Arrived - Perforator
Following community's feedback, devs decided to include new beasts and fauna into the mob-list. Their newest 'baby', the Perforator (beta name, which may be changed as had been done once already - dedicated AP readers know what I am talking about!), looks simply dreadful - crocodile head, demon-like body, and dragon-like claws simply have to instill fear in adventurer's heart!
See the cutie for yourself:

*Fire Magic - the overview
Two Worlds universe has several types of magic available - one of them, possibly the most damaging and spectacular, is Fire Magic School. In this issue, three spells were described in detail - Firewave, Chaos Rage and Meteor.

Firewave - is described as modified version of Fire spray in the issue, which is not the case. Firewave produces advancing carpet of flame, starting a bit in front of the player (omitting any enemy in the 'intimate' distance), and proceeding 3-4 steps ahead. It's range is MUCH smaller than fire spray, though, and it's damage exceeds to all enemies engulfed by the wave. The wave deals very small Over Time Damage, and cannot be cast so as to create neverending carpet (time between casts makes it very clunky, not really feasible against single oponents). As AP points out, it's designed to deal more damage but to also consume more mana. As a fire-spell, this spell also staggers enemies as they advance through the flames, and has another advantage over firewall - enemies won't be able to evade it's fiery grip.
Chaos rage - is a simple spell, described as a spell to force cursed creatures to fight at your side. AP even goes to say, that
"These summoning spells are especially handy if you‘ve got plenty of Mana in reserve, meaning you can awake several creatures at one time."
which isn't the case. Chaos rage is non-summoning spell, as targeted creatures cannot be unsummoned, and the spell itself is in no way affected by summoning booster. In fact, Chaos rage doesn't produce new allies, it only aggroes targeted being so that it attacks another being nearby, sometimes even you yourself.
Meteor - is "queen of Fire Magic" card, designed to inflict massive damage, with splash radius, at selected opponent. What has not been mentioned in AP,is that meteor - as many other spells - increases its AoE effect with newly added cards, and that time between casts (specifically, between meteor strikes themselves) is atrociously slow - it takes approximately 1-2 secs before the meteor actually falls on a target. This is why meteor should be used either against tight packs of weaker foes, as a first strike before they are aggroed at the player, or against a huge creature, again, as an initial strike. This is due to the fact, that unlike Blizzard or Lightning Storm, Meteor doesn't follow the target, and stays pinned to the area targeted during spell casting. This in turn means that if targeted oponent has moved after the spell was cast, but before the meteor went down, at best the meteor will only inflict side-damage - mere fraction of what center of effect damage would be.
*Did you know, that...
Finally, issue closes with an in-game tip on how to earn 30 000 ingame gold by following the Giriza questline. As AEon points out, killing any head of the guild (and the means of earning this huge pile of money are this exactly - an assassination!) reduces chances of advancement in the opposing guild to zero, by zeroing reputation with the enemy guild. While it may make one slightly richer, it may actually hurt game progress to do so.

NEW Two Worlds: The Temptation interview with Miroslaw Dymek |
|
Apr 30, 2008 - 6:29 AM - by UnKnOwN
|
CRPG.ru had the chance to conduct an interview with Reality Pump CEO Miroslaw Dymek about their upcoming Two Worlds: The Temptation standalone sequel, including how it will tie into the original game, their plans for water-based transportation, skill and quest system improvements, and more....
CRPG.RU: According to those tidbits of information on the Temptation, it continues the storyline of the original. Are we playing the same protagonist or a new one? And if it's the same one, do we give him a fresh start or are ought to load the save-games from the Two World (2W)?
Miroslaw Dymek: We want to advance the story bit by bit, "The Temptation" does continue with the 2W story - and the protagonist is the same. However, at the start of the game something very dramatic will happen - and that will explain, logically, why the hero has to start from the beginning. Players can't take over the character - the story of "The Temptation" will provide a beginning which will match both potential endings in 2W.
CRPG.RU: Can you reveal some details of the plot? Where do we start and what task lies ahead of the main hero?
Miroslaw Dymek: At the start of his adventure, the player will be taken to the desert city of Hatmandor on a search for the powerful Mage Andar Hog. The new center of Drak'ar is famous, thanks to a mysterious magical raw material called "Glow" - it's this that has propelled the city to prominence. When he gets to Hatmandor, the player will be caught up in a complicated game of cat-and-mouse in the workers' quarter in Hatmandor. This is where the laborers live - the ones who get the Glow out of the desert. The player can then gradually start to gain a reputation with the various guilds and groups, getting hold of some important info about the whereabouts of Andar Hog as he goes.
With this knowledge, the hero then goes to find and destroy Gandohar's power source - and save his sister Kira at the same time.

Pretty Sharp Optics in „The Temptaton”
During the further development of the graphical possibilities in „The Temptation“, the programmers certainly didn‘t neglect the Depth of Focus effect - and now they‘ve proudly presented the result of their efforts... an automatic Depth of Focus function within the game!
The optics specialists in the team took apart camera lenses by the dozen to analyze them - and they succeeded in opisolating several special features. So, after consultation with the designers, they integrated individual pieces of this optical jigsaw puzzle into the engine of „The Temptation“. Two of these special features from the world of photography were the settings for Shutter Speed and Focal Length - and now if you set these levels, you can actually vary the Depth of Focus in the game! The game developers also have this function available to influence visual range within the game. Yet another highlight is Autofocus....

This New Engine is just so Cooool
I believe I mentioned a new engine a couple of times in recent issues of the AP - and told you all how powerful it was, that it added true graphic power to the RPG? For this issue, I really sat on the developers‘ shoulders to find out more for you... and sure enough - I succeeded in stealing a few minutes of Miroslaw Dymek’s time. Here’s what he had to say….
„We started creating a whole new engine when we finished „Two Worlds“ - and it‘s battan engine that allows us to really stretch the technological envelope of Next-Gen Hardware, especially with regard to the realistic rendering of scenes. „The Temptation“ offers much more in the way of worlds and has a heck of a lot more detail in the visible areas too.
